About
Public interest in the municipal elections has been declining for a long time. This contrasts with the public debate on urban development, which is often very heated both in traditional media and social media. One reason for the low interest in local elections may be that voters do not know the parties' opinions in urban planning. In my dissertation, I fill this research gap by examining parties' goals and conflicts in urban planning in Helsinki, Tampere and Oulu. In the discussion, I will shortly present my main research findings and the main political divisions of urban planning in Tampere.
