About
The understanding of biodiversity in nature is challenged by the limitations of human sensory information. In the field of media ecology, efforts have been taken to acquire a more nuanced perspective to examine human–non–human relationships through sensory information. In the session, we discuss how environmental sensitivity can be developed based on media ecological approaches, and how sensorial knowledge can support the development of a compassionate relationship with nature and environmental responsibility. In her research Tarja Rautiainen-Keskustalo has examined how especially sound can provide understanding for the temporal, and often complex, relationships between humans and nature.
